Who are the Friends of the Springfield Public Library?
We love our library. We love music and movies. And, oh, do we love books! We love the heft of a book in our hands, the way the binding creaks and the scent of new paper. We marvel at the way words tickle our tongues, give us goose bumps and set fire to our imaginations. We are readers, researchers, film fans and music lovers. We believe the Springfield Public Library is one of our community’s most vital resources. We want you to share the love.

What do the Friends do?
The Friends of the Springfield Public Library is a non-profit organization that focuses public attention on library services, facilities, and needs; to strengthen and expand library services; and to stimulate the use of the library facilities as a resource center for the community. This is accomplished through annual membership fees, donations and book sales which in turn provide the library with materials and resources for:

  • new books and best sellers
  • children's programs and special events
  • foreign language media, up to date computers and reference databases

Each year, when some 1,300 Springfield children read more than 9,000 books during the Summer Reading Club, the Friends are there to lend a financial hand. When library collections cannot meet patron demand, the Friends jump in to add more new books onto the shelves. In addition to fundraising, the Friends help promote community awareness of the following library services:

  • Spring Fling-partnering with other community agencies, this event showcases not only the Library’s programs and services but those of the Springfield Museum, the Arts Commission, SMART and Willamalane Parks and Recreation
  • Wrap & Rap - A Thanksgiving to Christmas fundraiser where volunteers wrap gifts at a local book store for free but accept customer donations
  • Computer Sale - Donated working computers are refurbished and sold at bargain prices
  • Book Sale - An on-going sale of books and magazines located in our Library

The Friends are passionate volunteers and book lovers who simply want to lend the library financial and moral support.
