Applications will be screened for the required knowledge, skills, abilities and training twice during the initial phase of our process. Only the best qualified applicants will continue with the selection process, which may include structured interviews, various written and aptitude tests, assessment center exercises, medical examinations, psychological evaluations, reference and background checks. The first and last two methods will be used for all finalists. If you are among the finalists, you will be notified approximately 3 to 4 weeks after the closing date. If you are not a finalist, you will be notified by mail or email. Salary and BenefitsUnder normal circumstances an employee will be appointed at the first step of the salary range as it appears on the Employment Announcement. If a Department head believes it is necessary to make an appointment above the first step, the Human Resource Director or the City Manager must approve the request. In reviewing such requests, consideration will be given to the qualifications of a candidate, market conditions, and internal relationships with similar positions. For all full-time positions (excluding temporary), the City provides holiday, vacation and sick leave, life insurance and City-paid retirement after six months of employment, medical and dental coverage. Employees in certain job categories are eligible for additional benefits. Part-time employees (excluding temporary) receive prorated vacation, sick and holiday leave and are able to participate in the group health insurance program, if they contribute a percent of the monthly salary. Some departments have instituted a total or partial "NO SMOKING while at work" policy. This is a condition of employment and if selected you will be required to comply with this policy. The person selected must provide, at the time of appointment, appropriate documentation of citizenship, or an Alien Registration Receipt Card, as required by the Immigration and Naturalization Act of 1986.
