Choosing a Lender
If you meet the income qualifications for the Springfield Home Ownership Program (SHOP), your first step is to be pre-qualified by an approved SHOP lender of your choosing. The lender will be able to answer your questions concerning credit, income, and how to begin the loan process. The lender will also provide information about the required homebuyer preparation program.
The Homebuyer Preparation Program
Prospective SHOP recipients are required to complete The ABC's of Homebuying seminar. The course is designed to help you decide if buying a home is right for you and to understand the home buying process. The class is presented by NEDCO (Neighborhood Economic Development Corporation) and taught by experienced volunteers. The class is generally scheduled for one Saturday each month.
Certificate of completion from this course will satisfy the educational requirements for local down payment assistance and First Time Homebuyer loan programs, such as the SHOP, Oregon State Bond, Homebuyer Assistance Program (City of Eugene), FHA and Homestart$$. Advance registration is required. Space is limited to 30 persons, so register early. If you require any special accommodations to attend this seminar, please let NEDCO know at the time you make your reservations.
To register, find the date of the next class, or for more information about the program, please contact NEDCO at:
