Electronic Submittals

As engineering firms comply with the City's Electronic Acceptance Standards, they help to support a shared public asset.
APPLICATION INTERFACE
Within AutoCAD Map, GIS staff operates a fairly straightforward set of standardized tools. Within this environment, staff also has access to standard AutoCAD editing tools for precise cleanup operations.

Through a simple set of menus and toolbars staff can transfer system components from the electronic as-builts into the spatial database. The menu items guide staff through the data entry process in an orderly fashion. See illustration of menu items below, for an overview.

For each of the system components listed in the illustration above, robust edit and list panels control the transfer of information from the electronic as-built into the City's Infrastructure inventories.

Edit panels such as the Storm Manhole Creation dialog box (left) enforce quality control and quality assurance (QA/QC). If certain information is not available on an as-built, then City technicians need to perform additional research prior to processing the information. In some cases, the lack of certain information can significantly delay entry of system components into the inventories.

The design, development and implementation of these infrastructure
inventory maintenance tools has been and will continue to be an evolutionary process. As the City is required to inventory new system components new data elements, rules and tools are added to the interface.

Summary

The City takes great care maintaining these electronic public assets. As such, significant resources have been dedicated to
1) incorporating AutoCAD information
2) providing stringent QA/QC routines
3) developing strong working relationships with the private sector.

As engineering firms comply with the City's Electronic Acceptance Standards, they are helping to support this shared public asset.

Please remember that although there are data charges for Planimetrics (detailed topography in DWG format), digital terrain model (DTM) data and orthophotography, there are no data charges for digital infrastructure information (system components as described in the Electronic acceptance standards.) Processing fees do apply to all digital data requests, i.e., staff time to process the digital request.

All are encouraged to use this digital infrastructure information to leverage shared cost savings.
