A Curriculum

The Springfield History Curriculum project is a program of Springfield
Museum funded by Trust Management Services, LLC. The project's purpose
is to organize existing material pertaining to the history of Springfield
for use by third-grade teachers in District 19. Thanks to the creativity
and hard work of the project coordinators, Barbara Pope and Debbie Farr,
many ideas for using historic information as a way to teach mathematics,
mapping and more are starting points for each teacher's own creative work.
In addition, Ms. Pope and Ms. Farr did extensive research on interesting
and unusual aspects local history as well as a thorough general history.
This is the first project for the schools funded through the Springfield
Museum. It is just the beginning and we welcome teachers' ideas for more
creative and innovative ways to incorporate local history themes into
the curriculum. This
Springfield City project was made possible by a grant received from The
Trust Management Services. We gratefully acknowledge their sponsorship. Here
are some sample sections from the curriculum that teachers and students
can browse online: Click
