City of Springfield Pay Grade: 422 FLSA Status: Nonexempt Bargaining Unit: AFSCME GENERAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Under the general supervision of the Maintenance Supervisor, performs, and provides lead direction for the installation, maintenance, and repair of traffic signal systems, and other related electrical systems. Performs related duties as required. Essential Duties 1. Installs and maintains traffic
signal systems, and other related electrical systems, to include vehicle
detector loops, video detection systems, and communication systems related
to traffic signals; provides lead direction for other Traffic unit employees
as required. QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS General Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Considerable knowledge of electrical and electronic traffic signal systems, practices, tools, terminology, materials, and equipment; knowledge of the principles and methods of technical supervision and training; knowledge of the design, construction, installation and maintenance of electrical and lighting equipment and systems; knowledge of the procedures for operating an aerial lift truck and related equipment; knowledge of electrical codes and related ordinances and regulations; knowledge of electric motors, control systems, and video detection equipment; knowledge of safe working practices; knowledge of computer systems as they relate to traffic signal operations; ability to provide the necessary technical and functional supervision for assigned unit staff; ability to perform electrical system maintenance and repair; ability to utilize word processing, spreadsheet, database, and network operating systems sufficiently to perform the duties of the position; ability to perform at a skill level that is representative of a General Journeyman Electrician in the electrical trades; ability to use electrical tools and equipment in a safe manner; ability to operate an aerial lift truck and related equipment; ability to diagnose causes of electrical failure, and repair electrical and electronic traffic signal systems; ability to participate in a citywide preventive signal maintenance program; ability to understand, and carry out, oral and written instructions; ability to work safely at heights found with traffic signal repair; ability to read, write, and speak at a level required for successful job performance; ability to respond to traffic signal emergencies at any time of the day or night; ability to maintain good working relationships with co-workers, contractors, other agencies, and the general public. Experience and Training Three years of increasingly responsible experience as a journey-level electrician, with responsibility for traffic signal maintenance capacity, to include installing and repairing various types of traffic signal control systems (e.g. type 170 controller), or any combination of experience, training and education that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities. Licenses and Certifications Possession of a State of Oregon General Journeyman Electrician License. Possession of an IMSA Traffic Signal Technician I certificate, or the ability to obtain within twelve months of appointment. Possession of a Class B Oregon Commercial Driver's License.
