GENERAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Under the general supervision of a Police Captain, performs the routine cleaning and basic maintenance of the Police Department and Municipal Court building and offices. Performs related duties as required.

Essential Duties

1. Cleans floors, windows, walls, and fixtures, using various cleaning agents, chemicals, solvents, and equipment.

2. Strips and waxes hard surface floors, using power waxing machines and buffers; buffs waxed areas as needed; cleans and shampoos carpets using spot cleaning and extract-cleaning methods and equipment.

3. Performs minor vehicle maintenance work, to include tire changes and interior and exterior cleaning; utilizes specific methods, chemicals, protective clothing, and disposal procedures, for cleaning blood and other body fluids from the interiors of patrol vehicles.

4. Replaces light bulbs, fluorescent tubes, and expendable lavatory supplies as needed; performs minor building maintenance, to include the replacement of light switches and electric outlets, repair of faucets, replacement of broken tiles, and caulking.

5. Removes office trash and discarded materials and prepares them for collection by placement in the appropriate containers.

6. Secures building and office entrances after completing assigned tasks.

7. Transports department fleet vehicles to the Maintenance Division for maintenance and repair, or to a specific dealer service department for warranty or recall service.

8. May coordinate the activities of Community Service Workers, who are assigned to outside cleaning projects.

9. May remove or replace patrol vehicle equipment, to include weapons; clears and unloads patrol vehicle weapons and secures them in the department armory.

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS

General Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Knowledge of office and building cleaning methods and procedures; knowledge of the correct application and use of cleaning chemicals, solvents, detergents and waxes; knowledge of safe work practices, to include the safe removal and disposal of blood stains and body fluids; knowledge of the methods used to safely clear and secure patrol vehicle weapons; ability to learn City and Department procedures as they relate to cleaning and maintenance activities, and the safe handling and securing of weapons; ability to operate power cleaning equipment, including electric buffers, waxing machines, and vacuum cleaners; ability to perform minor building maintenance and repair tasks; ability to operate and transport department vehicles in a safe manner; ability to clean the exterior and interior of patrol cars, to include the regulated removal and disposal of blood and other body fluids; ability to follow oral and written instructions; ability to interact harmoniously and productively with co-workers; ability to lift objects safely that could weigh a maximum of 80 pounds; ability to read, write, and communicate at the level required for successful job performance; ability to travel as required.

Experience and Training

Two years of experience in the cleaning and basic maintenance of confidential work areas, or limited-access buildings and offices, or any combination of experience, training and education that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities.

Licenses and Certifications

Appointees must possess a valid Oregon driver's license at the time of appointment.
