GENERAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Under the indirect supervision of a Planning Supervisor or the lead direction of a Planner, offers customer service and planning information to front counter visitors. Performs related duties as required.

Essential Duties

1. Provides planning information to the public using printed documents, division procedures and knowledge of regulations and guidelines.

2. Performs an initial review of planning applications at the front counter, for completeness and detail.

3. Documents the receipt of planning applications.

4. Reviews building permit applications to ensure that all land use requirements are addressed.

5. Completes a variety of paraprofessional planning duties as assigned by the Planning Supervisor.


QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS

General Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Knowledge of the basic practices and procedures of a government planning operation; knowledge of local and State requirement and regulations relating to planning and land use; knowledge of the nomenclature, symbols, methods, techniques, and instruments used in planning activities; knowledge of customer service methods and principles; ability to provide satisfactory customer service; ability to utilize word processing, spreadsheet, database, and network operating systems sufficiently to perform he duties of the position; ability to satisfactorily represent the program, the department, and the City; ability to explain laws, rules, and regulations to customers; ability to provide information to the public regarding planning, development and zoning regulations; ability to establish and maintain cooperative relationships with both the public and staff.

Experience and Training

One year of college that includes coursework in Planning or a related field and one year of experience in complex recordkeeping and data organizing, explaining procedures and regulations, and the processing of permits and/or applications. Additional related education may be substituted for the required experience, or any combination of experience and training that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities.
