Rev. 11/87 City of Springfield MECHANIC 2 Pay Grade: 421 FLSA Status: Nonexempt Bargaining Unit: AFSCME GENERAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Under supervision, performs general mechanical work on City equipment and vehicles. Performs other duties as assigned. Essential Duties 1. Performs periodic and preventive maintenance services. 2. Performs mechanical repair. 3. Performs welding and metal fabrication with the ability to work from drawings. 4. Orders parts, tools and supplies as authorized. 5. Performs cleaning and housekeeping of City vehicles and facilities. 6. Provides or receives skills training as appropriate. 7. Provides oral and written reports as required. 8. Supervises co-workers as required. 9. May have responsibility for long term, complex projects. 10. Produces project proposals, including cost estimates. QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS General Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Includes, but is not restricted to, journeyman level knowledge of mechanical repair and fabrication; ability to follow complex, written instructions; ability to carry out oral instructions; ability to work without supervision; ability to establish and maintain working relationships with other City employees; ability to operate City equipment sufficient to effectively repair the equipment. Experience and Training Requires three years experience in general mechanical work. Some experience in operating equipment is required. Completion of specialized automotive and equipment mechanical training. Any combination of education and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities will be considered qualifying. Licenses and Certifications An Oregon drivers license is required at the time of appointment. jc 620251
