City of Springfield MAINTENANCE SUPERVISOR Pay Grade: 35 FLSA Status: Exempt Bargaining Unit: Nonunion
Under the general supervision of the Maintenance Manager, supervises the maintenance of the City's vehicles, equipment, and infrastructure, including public buildings, sanitary sewers, surface and subsurface drainage systems, streets, landscaping, and traffic control systems. Performs related duties as required. Essential Duties 1. Supervises assigned vehicle, equipment, and/or infrastructural maintenance operations and staff; develops and implements employee training programs; sets work schedules and monitors procedures; oversees and inspects work in the field on a regular basis. 2. Researches, analyzes, and evaluates maintenance issues as assigned, and prepares and presents reports to the Department Management Team. 3. Develops, administers, and monitors assigned maintenance program budgets. 4. Purchases equipment and supplies; develops contract specifications, and coordinates/monitors contractor activities. 5. Responds to inquiries and complaints from citizens; recommends maintenance standard and customer service guideline changes. 6. Coordinates maintenance activities with other departments and other local agencies. 7. Acts in the absence of the Maintenance Manager. QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS General Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Considerable knowledge of public works maintenance operations, responsibilities, and methods; considerable knowledge of supervisory techniques, methods, and principles; knowledge of statutes and regulations that affect public works maintenance operations; knowledge of project scheduling and record keeping methods; ability to interpret plans and specifications; ability to develop, administer, and monitor budgets; ability to develop contract specifications; ability to prepare and present accurate, understandable reports; ability to travel as required; ability to utilize word processing, spreadsheet, and database systems sufficiently to perform assigned duties; ability to work effectively with other employees, elected officials, other agencies and the general public. Experience and Training Completion, or equivalent, of a job-related two-year college program, plus related work experience, typically three years of increasingly responsible experience in the mainte-nance of public works' vehicles, equipment, and infrastructure, to include experience as a project or crew leader, or any combination of experience and training that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities. Licenses and Certifications Appointee must have a valid Oregon driver's license at the time of appointment. Condition of Employment Incumbents are assigned, on a rotation basis, through the various program areas in the division.
