City of Springfield MAINTENANCE INTERN (SEASONAL) Pay Grade: 912 FLSA Status: Nonexempt Bargaining Unit: Nonunion
GENERAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Under the supervision of a Maintenance Supervisor, performs entry level seasonal work to maintain City trees, planter beds, and other landscaped areas. Performs related duties as required. Essential Duties 1. Participates in shrub and tree planting. 2. Assists in irrigation line repairs and sprinkler head replacements. 3. Maintains shrubs and planter beds by trimming and weeding. 4. Provides assistance to the tree trimming crew by trimming trees and chipping branches. 5. Implements vegetation control using weed eaters. 6. May assist street, sewer, building, or equipment maintenance crews. 7. Provides written and oral reports as required. QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS General Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Knowledge of basic laborer procedures and work activities to include the use of hand tools, and equipment; knowledge of the value of team efforts; ability to carry out written and oral instructions; ability to document work activities and provide basic written reports; ability to maintain positive working relations with co-workers and the general public; ability to work safely in a hazardous, fast-paced, outdoor environment; ability to learn the techniques and methods involved in maintenance and construction of the City's public works facilities. Experience and Training Familiarity with tasks that occur in public works maintenance, and/or landscape or construction work. OTHER REQUIREMENTS Employees must be at least 18 years of age to meet Oregon Bureau of Labor and Industry standards for operating equipment. A valid Oregon driver's license
is required at the time of appointment.
