Under the general supervision of the Library Director, or a Library Manager, provides technical and administrative support expertise for Library automation systems. Performs related duties as required. Essential Duties 1. Provides lead direction in the administration of the automated system in the City Library, to include: setup and maintenance, training, backups, system upgrades, reporting, troubleshooting, and help desk inquiries; may offer the same expertise and assistance to other libraries via a contract for services. 2. Conducts training for Library staff in the use of computers and software, to include specific applications for library operations; offers training to library patrons and library staff in other municipalities. 3. Modifies software for library staff within application function parameters; provides routine assistance as needed; serves as a liaison between the Library and the Information Technology Department, and the libraries and software vendors. 4. Establishes, maintains, and modifies the Springfield Library web page; designs signs, forms, and graphics. 5. Gathers, stores, and analyzes data; compiles statistics and other information and generates reports. 6. Participates in long range planning with the Director in the areas of technology and automation. 7. Coordinates the selection and purchase of equipment; repairs and maintains audiovisual equipment. 8. Provides reference and reader's advisory assistance to library patrons at the adult and junior reference desks; provides operational assistance to patrons at the circulation desk. 9. Communicates with managers and staff in other libraries to provide technical assistance and training in regard to their automated systems; travels to other locations as needed. QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS General Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Considerable knowledge of policies and procedures that would exist in the operations of a public library; Considerable knowledge of the operation and design of library automation systems, and the Sirsi Library System; considerable knowledge of the role of computers and related technology as they relate to library operations, to include UNIX, Win-dows 98, Macintosh, networking, TCP/IP, CD ROMS, and printers; knowledge of HTML and web page design; knowledge of the Internet, telnet, and FTP protocols; knowledge of library content, arrangement, and public service policy; knowledge of training methods and techniques; ability to utilize appropriate computer hardware, software, and applications to meet library operational needs; ability to work with library staff to set up work flows within the Sirsi system; ability to train staff and library system administrators in the operation of Sirsi Software; ability to set up, maintain, and troubleshoot personal computers and networks in a wide variety of configurations; ability to work effectively with Information Technology staff and vendors in major software and hardware purchases and upgrades, and also day-to-day network and hardware problem solving; ability to teach and demonstrate the usage and operation of hardware, software, and the Internet to staff and patrons; ability to generate meaningful reports from the Library's automated system in order to meet operational needs; ability to utilize word processing, spreadsheets, and data base software to design applications and reports; ability to analyze reports and data to assist in department planning processes; ability to locate collection items in response to patron requests; ability to perform minor repairs on audio and visual equipment and tapes; ability to communicate effectively with staff, patrons, other libraries, computer professionals, and vendors; ability to travel as required. Experience and Training Completion, or the equivalent of a two year college program, with major coursework in computer science, computer technology, or a related field, plus related work experience, typically three years of complex technical support for a library or similar public service organization. Additional related education or formal training may be substituted for up to half of the required experience, or any combination of education and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities. Licenses and Certifications Appointees must have a valid State of Oregon Driver's License at the time of appointment. jc100461
