ENGINEERING TECHNICIAN 3 (Survey Crew)

GENERAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Under the general supervision of a Professional Engineer, performs a variety of complex field and office work at the journey level of paraprofessional engineering. Performs related duties as required.

Essential Duties

1. Participates on survey crews by performing topographic, right of way, and construction staking; completes other survey field crew assignments as needed.

2. Completes paraprofessional engineering studies; uses complex hydraulics and hydrological calculations and techniques; completes project design work using personal computers and software.

3. Develops public improvement needs, scheduling, and costs estimates.

4. Prepares draft Engineer Reports, summarizes bids, processes paysheets, and completes ongoing technical office tasks; collects field data by electronic total station, data collector, and traditional field notes.

5. Analyzes and interprets documents pertaining to land records, surveys, and subdivisions; reduces survey field notes using computer based applications such as Auto-CAD - Softdesk, Star Net, or similar programs.

6. Maintains a variety of records, files, maps, and descriptions.

7. May inspect public works construction and improvement projects as required.

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS

General Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Considerable knowledge of technical survey principles and instruments; considerable knowledge of technical street, sanitary and storm sewer design; knowledge of construction principles and methods as they relate to large, capital projects; knowledge of drafting procedures and practices; knowledge of mathematics including trigonometry and geometry; knowledge of rules and regulations of the foreclosure process; ability to perform skilled survey inspection, and design tasks; ability to coordinate the design and project activity of large capital improvement projects; ability to utilize personal computers and engineering software to complete complex design and analysis; ability to analyze, interpret and prepare legal descriptions; ability to maintain precise records and prepare reports; ability to interpret laws, rules and regulations; ability to work effectively with co-workers, contractors and the public; ability to travel as required; ability to complete survey and inspection work safely in construction areas that may require walking on uneven terrain and unfinished surfaces.

Knowledge of AutoCAD is desirable.

Experience and Training

Completion, or equivalent, of two years of college with major coursework in engineering, plus related work experience, typically four years of experience in paraprofessional engineering work, to include two years with a field survey crew. Additional related college coursework may be substituted for up to half of the required experience, or any combination of experience, training and education that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.

Licenses and Certifications

Appointee must have a valid Oregon driver's license at the time of appointment.
