GENERAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Under the general supervision of a Supervising Civil Engineer, performs a variety of paraprofessional engineering tasks, in support of the Public Works Engineering program. Performs related duties as required.

Essential Duties

1. Provides information related to public works infrastructure and department policies to members of the public, representatives of other agencies, and public utilities.

2. Drafts City maps and display charts and updates all City maps using AutoCAD and/or Arcview software.

3. Maintains records and files using both conventional filing systems and electronic document management software.

4. Participates in the preparation of project contract documents; assists in cost analysis and estimates.

5. Prepares construction drawings for the design of street, sanitary and storm sewer projects, for review and modification by the project engineer.

6. Accepts, processes, and evaluates curb cut, flood plain, Encroachment, and Sidewalk permits.

7. Reviews, evaluates and processes Land Alteration and Drainage permits.

8. Researches, evaluates, and processes permit applications for compliance with the Municipal Code, Standard Specifications and Drawings, Federal and State requirements, etc.

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Knowledge of basic Civil Engineering principles involving mathematics, physics, hydraulics/hydrology and transportation; knowledge of the tools and techniques needed for drafting municipal facility plans using AutoCAD; knowledge of municipal street, sanitary sewer and storm sewer design; ability to write accurate, understandable reports using electronic word processing software; ability to use graphic software; ability to work harmoniously with co-workers in a team working environment and with the general public; ability to interpret field notes and sketches; ability to travel as needed.

Experience and Training

Two years of college with coursework in engineering and three years of experience in paraprofessional engineering work; additional related college coursework may be substituted for up to half of the required experience, or any combination of experience, training and education that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities.

Licenses and Certifications

Appointees must have a valid State of Oregon driver's license at the time of appointment.
