Summary
GENERAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Under the general
supervision of the Maintenance Assistant, or other division supervisor
or manager, enters and retrieves Automated Mapping/Facilities Management
(AM/FM) data, to include Infrastructure Management System (IMS) and
Geographic Information System (GIS) data. Performs related duties as
required.
Essential Duties
1. Updates the Infrastructure
Management System (IMS) inventories, in accordance with business needs,
and as information becomes available through maintenance activities.
2. Maintains infrastructure
files with specific operational data, to include information regarding
sanitary sewers, storm sewers, surface drainage, signage, streets (pavement
markings, and signals), buildings, facilities, street trees, and vehicles.
3. Provides IMS
and GIS technical support to staff, and produces maps and other graphic
information for specific requests; uses both local and regional data
sources to perform routine analyses and generate reports.
4. Completes data
conversion, extraction, and manipulation to satisfy digital data requests;
may produce maps using AutoCAD, ARC/INFO, and ARCView, as required.
5. Trains division
staff, as needed, to allow them to understand and use IMS and GIS data,
and data products.
6. Participates
in division, department, and citywide meetings as they relate to scope
of duties and responsibilities.
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS
General Knowledge,
Skills, and Abilities
Knowledge of AM/FM
systems, to include Infrastructure Management Systems (IMS), and Geographic
Information Systems (GIS), as they relate to Public Works Maintenance
operations; knowledge of data development and application procedures;
knowledge of PC equipment, applications and capabilities in a networked
environment; knowledge of commonly used applications including IMS,
GIS, word processing, databases, spreadsheets, and other public works
computer applications; ability to enter, retrieve, and process data
in the Maintenance Division's IMS, and the Public Work's Department's
GIS; ability to work independently with intermittent supervision, and
within a predefined process; ability to work as a team member or independently;
ability to accept direction, follow instructions, and complete assignments
according to established deadlines; ability to communicate with users
who have a wide variety of computer skills; ability to identify and
correct basic computer hardware and software problems; ability to communicate
in oral, written, and electronic formats; ability to type and enter
data sufficiently to perform the duties of the position; ability to
work harmoniously and effectively with co-workers, other agencies, and
the general public.
Experience and
Training
Related work experience,
typically two years of increasingly responsible technical experience
with Facilities Management/Automated Mapping in a public works production
environment. Specific related training may be substituted for half of
the required experience, or any combination of education and experience
which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities.
