Summary
GENERAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Under the general
supervision of a Maintenance Supervisor, assigns and reviews the work
of a custodial unit, and participates in the cleaning and maintenance
of City buildings and offices. Performs related duties as required.
Essential Duties
1. Participates
in the planning, organization and coordination of current and future
custodial services; serves as a lead worker and assigns, inspects and
reviews work of the custodial unit; provides instruction to and coaches
new employees.
2. Evaluates cleaning
methods, materials, and equipment for performance, efficiency, and safety;
monitors custodial supply use and schedules resupply as necessary; completes
the necessary records and reports.
3. Develops and
maintains a schedule for City Hall cleaning operations to include contingency
plans for special projects; coordinates major and/or emergency building
and facilities repair with the Building Maintenance Worker and the Maintenance
Supervisor.
4. Performs the
full range of regular custodial tasks, to include the operation of floor
finish machines and commercial carpet cleaners and carpet extractors;
completes minor cleaning equipment and building repairs.
5. Coordinates and
schedules the preparation, cleaning, setup and take-down of public meeting
rooms with the Building Maintenance Worker.
6. Identifies, develops,
coordinates and implements community service and volunteer projects
to enhance and beautify City Hall.
7. Locks, and otherwise
secures, interior offices and perimeter doors at City Hall and the Museum
after custodial tasks are completed, and/or the offices and buildings
are closed to the public.
8. Activates and
monitors security systems as directed by supervisor.
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS
General Knowledge,
Skills and Abilities
Considerable knowledge
of office and building cleaning methods and procedures; considerable
knowledge of the correct application and use of cleaning chemicals,
solvents, detergents and finishes; considerable knowledge of the use
and maintenance of custodial cleaning equipment; knowledge of supervisory
and training techniques; knowledge of basic inventory and recordkeeping
methods; knowledge of basic custodial work scheduling and coordination
practices; knowledge of safe work practices. Ability to assign, inspect,
and review the work of the custodial unit; ability to develop training
programs and train custodial workers; ability to develop and maintain
a schedule and contingency plans for cleaning operations; ability to
operate and perform minor maintenance on a full range of power cleaning
equipment; ability to follow and provide oral and written instructions;
ability to prepare accurate, timely reports; ability to complete cleaning
and building maintenance assignments as required; ability to interact
harmoniously and productively with co-workers and the public; ability
to lift objects that could weigh a maximum of 80 pounds; ability to
read and write at the level required for successful job performance.
Experience and
Training
Three years experience
in the cleaning and basic maintenance of buildings and offices, including
one year in a lead worker or equivalent capacity, or any combination
of experience, training and education that provides the required knowledge,
skills and abilities.
