GENERAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Under the general supervision of a Maintenance supervisor, performs the routine cleaning and basic maintenance of Municipal buildings and offices. Performs related duties as required.

Essential Duties

1. Cleans floors, windows, walls, and fixtures, using various cleaning agents, chemicals, and solvents.

2. Strips and waxes hard surface floors, using power waxing machines and buffers; buffs waxed areas as needed.

3. Replaces light bulbs, fluorescent tubes, and expendable lavatory supplies as needed.

4. Removes office trash and discarded materials and prepares them for collection by placement in the appropriate containers.

5. Cleans and shampoos carpets using spot cleaning and extract-cleaning methods and equipment.

6. Secures building and office entrances after completing assigned tasks.

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS

General Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Knowledge of office and building cleaning methods and procedures; knowledge of the correct application and use of cleaning chemicals, solvents, detergents and waxes; knowledge of safe work practices; ability to learn city and department procedures as they relate to cleaning and maintenance activities; ability to operate power cleaning equipment, including electric buffers, waxing machines, and vacuum
cleaners; ability to follow oral and written instructions; ability to interact harmoniously and productively with co-workers; ability to lift objects that could weigh a maximum of 80 pounds; ability to read and write at the level required for successful job performance.

Experience and Training

One year of experience in the cleaning and basic maintenance of buildings and offices, or any combination of experience, training and education that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities.
