Summary
GENERAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Under the general
supervision of a maintenance supervisor, provides a wide variety of building
maintenance and repair, grounds maintenance, and custodial services for
City buildings and offices. Performs related duties as required.
Essential Duties
1. Performs skilled
and semi-skilled labor to maintain City buildings, facilities and related
support systems.
2. Makes minor adjustments and minor repairs to mechanical, plumbing,
and building facilities; coordinates work with contractors for repair,
replacement and/or addition to the plumbing, heating, security, fire,
sprinkler, electrical, air conditioning, and alarm systems.
3. Performs general carpentry duties including, repair and alteration
of office furniture, installation or repair of doors or windows, building
and hanging of shelves, building of a work bench and cabinets, and building
of office furniture (book case, computer table).
4. Performs grounds and landscape maintenance; such as removing litter
from sidewalks and parking lots around City Hall; maintains City Hall
flower beds.
5. Participates in the custodial services at City Hall; repairs and maintains
custodial equipment.
6. Participates in the overall security program for City Hall, Museum,
and offices during work hours; activates and monitors security systems,
sprinkler systems, and fire alarm system.
7. Interacts with the general public to explain City policies, programs,
and procedures.
8. Provides oral and written reports as required, prepares data and enters
data into automated information systems.
9. Identifies, develops, coordinates and implements community service
and volunteer projects to enhance and beautify City Hall.
10. Coordinates and schedules the preparation, cleaning, set-up and take-down
of public meeting rooms with custodial staff.
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS
General Knowledge,
Skills and Abilities
Considerable knowledge
of building maintenance, repair and alteration procedures, techniques,
and processes; knowledge of building, mechanical, plumbing, alarm, security,
and sprinkler systems; knowledge of materials, equipment and methods used
in performing building custodial services; knowledge of safe work practices;
knowledge of general building codes; knowledge of basis computer applications
as they relate to building maintenance and repair; ability to use hand
tools and other equipment generally used in building maintenance, repair,
and construction trades; ability to follow written and oral instructions;
ability to act harmoniously and productively with co-workers and the general
public; ability to produce accurate, concise, understandable reports;
ability to lift 80 pounds using safe, correct procedures; ability to maintain
records for maintenance and repair schedules, cost figures, and other
related areas; ability to work from sketches and blueprints sufficiently
to perform the duties of the position; ability to coordinate building
maintenance services, activities and projects with contractors; ability
to learn and use an automated building maintenance system.
Experience and
Training
Three years of experience
in building maintenance and repair, to include basic construction and
maintenance of mechanical units, and plumbing repair and custodial work,
or any combination of experience, training and education that provides
the required knowledge, skills and abilities.
Licenses and Certifications
An Oregon driver's
license is required at the time of appointment.
