Eligible Repairs under the Emergency Home Repair Program

The Emergency Home Repair Program is designed to remedy conditions that present an urgent need. Repairs must be urgent in nature, meaning that the condition to be repaired must pose an immediate health or safety hazard to the occupant or will cause significant decay to the structure if left unabated. Examples of eligible repairs might include:

  • Leaking or damaged roofs
  • defective heaters, furnaces, thermostats
  • Leaking faucets, burst pipes, clogged drains
  • Faulty electrical fixtures, unsafe wiring, overloaded circuits
  • Broken or leaking windows
  • Broken, poor-fitting or drafty doors
  • Installation or repair of wheelchair ramps, grab bars or removal of architectural barriers

 

A few examples of work that normally would not qualify might include:

  • Replacing or repairing screen doors
  • Insulation and weatherization
  • Rebuilding of dry rot damage
  • Repairs to appliances such as washers, dryers, etc.
  • Cosmetic improvements or work on outbuildings, garages, etc.
  • Landscaping and fence repair
