Where
may I apply for a permit?
Permits are issued in the Development Services Department at
Springfield City Hall located at 225
Fifth Street; Springfield, OR 97477. Contractors may also apply for some Electrical, Plumbing and Residential Mechanical Permits online at www.buildingpermits.oregon.gov.

May
I fax in my permit application?
With the exception of Electrical
Permit Applications, where we have an original signed applications
on file, all building permit applications must be submitted in person
to the Development Services Department located at Springfield City
Hall between the hours of 8:00am
to 12:00pm and
1:00pm to 3:00pm
Monday through Friday (excluding holidays). Permits cannot be issued
until we have received payment.

No, the permit counter is open to the public from 8:00am
to 12:00pm and
1:00pm to 3:00pm
Monday through Friday, excluding holidays. Customers are helped
on a first-come, first-served basis.

can I do without a permit?
Please see our "No
Permit Required" handout. If what you are doing is not
on that list then chances are you will need a permit before doing
the work. If you are still unsure then please come to Development

Where
do I get an electrical permit?
Electrical
permits are processed by the Community Services Division of
the Development Services Department at Springfield City Hall during
the hours of 8:00am-12:00pm
and 1:00pm-3:00pm
Monday through Friday, excluding holidays. They may also be processed
by mail when accompanied by an original signed application and payment
in full. Electrical contractors may keep original signed
applications on file with us and call to activate them when they
are ready to use them.

What
is the building code for the City of Springfield?
The City of Springfield does not have its own building code.
The City has adopted the State Specialty Codes of Oregon. Current Codes (Subject to change).

May
I do the work myself or do I need to hire a contractor?
Generally homeowners may perform their own work on the reidence
they live at. Commercial and industrial locations typically require
most work be performed by a qualified, licensed contractor. Please
check with our Community Services Division about your specific situation
at (541)726-3753.

I get copies of plans for buildings in Springfield?
Residential plans are not kept on file after two years of completion
of the structure. Industrial and commercial plans are generally
available. Please call first. Depending on the age of the structure
we may not have them on file.

I start work before my permit is issued?
Work may not legally begin before a permit is obtained. Please check
with our Community Services Division with specific questions at
(541)726-3753.

Do
I need a permit to reroof a building?
Residential structures may reroof or overlay the existing roof covering
without a permit provided there exists no more than one (1)
layer and no structural elements (sheathing, rafters, trusses) are
replaced. Commercial and industrial structures require permits.

Do
I get a Certificate of Occupancy?
Certificates of Occupancy (CO) are issued at the completion
of a new building's
construction.

Do
I need a permit to build a detached storage shed?
Yes, however there is an exception for one-story, detached residential
storage buildings up to 200
square feet and less than 10
feet in height. No shed may encroach into side or front yard setbacks
or be constructed in any public utility easement. Please call the
Oregon Utility Notification
Center before you dig.

A permit is required if the deck is more than 30
inches above grade.

tub?
There are requirements for any body of water over 18"
in depth. Please contact the Community Services Division with your
specific situation.

How
do I schedule an inspection?
Inspection requests may be made
by calling our 24-hour
inspection request line at (541)726-3769.
Please be prepared to leave your city designated permit number,
address, type of inspection you are requesting and when you will
be ready for the inspection. Inspections called in after 7:00am
will be performed the next business day.
