SPRINGFIELD PROPOSED 2 CENTS PER GALLON MOTOR FUEL TAX INCREASE

Question:

Shall City of Springfield increase its motor vehicle fuel tax increasing tax from 3 cents to 5 cents per gallon?

Summary:

The funds generated from this tax would be used to repair and preserve City of Springfield streets for the public safety and health, including maintaining the travelling surface of the street, maintaining, operating and coordinating traffic signals, striping and signage, street lights and landscaping. Without the funds, Springfield streets would develop rough road surfaces, deteriorated signs and markings, less well coordinated signals, and failed street lights.

Approval of this proposed tax would increase the rate of tax on motor vehicle fuel dealers from 3 cents per gallon to 5 cents per gallon.
